It’s over! After several decades, it’s over.
He claims the Air Force taught him how to make the bed and he’s done it for years. Retirement has changed all that! Now that I’m sleeping in, his 30 year run of bed making is done. I’m still asleep when he goes to work so my bedside coffee service has ended as well.
Luckily, because I’m waking so rested (just one of the many wonderful perks of retirement) I’m able to think about coffee before I even open my eyes. I imagine how it will smell, which cup I’ll use and where I’ll enjoy my first sip. Before my eyes are open, I mindfully plan how I will spend my time and how I will invest in those I love.
Most importantly, I think about the next 30 years of tradition. How can I do simple small things for those I love like my husband did for me?
