South Store Cafe

I dropped the box but the passion fruit tart was still delicious!  The flaky layers of pastry  topped with the pleasantly tart tang of passion fruit custard may have been the best part of my road trip today.

My home near Portland, Oregon is perfectly situated between the ocean beaches and the mountains.  After volunteering in a first grade classroom in Hillsboro, I made a quick trip to Lincoln City, Oregon to spend time with family. Though it was out of the way, I dropped by South Store Cafe  for a treat to make my day extra special.  The cinnamon rolls, covered in nuts and shiny caramel glaze tempted me.  Scents of roasted veggies and  sizzling sausage also lured me in and I almost changed my mind but today, they had passion fruit tarts so I didn’t pass up the special opportunity.  One thing you should know about this cafe is they sometimes sell out of an item you may be longing for.  Once, someone bought the last passion fruit tart right before your eyes.  I was devastated then so today I felt especially lucky.

The drive to this rural cafe was a feast for the eyes.  Fall colors in Oregon are absolutely beautiful now.  In the parking lot, giant orange and brown leaves drift to the ground.  Flaming red leaves cling to the branches of a different tree.  As I wound over Bald Peak and through wine county west towards the Pacific Ocean, I was mesmerized by the leaves in the brilliant sunshine then fog and rain.  Oregon is the most beautiful state in our nation and October is the most splendid month.

Today I listened to DeCluttering at the Speed of Life by Dana White as I drove. Read by the author, his audiobook was captivating and likely saved me money as I visited the Tanger Outlet Mall later in the day.

  1. For someone not into poetry, you’re pretty darn poetic. I love your descriptive imagery.😊

    When are we going adventuring?
